As a reader you will go through many magical and emotional journeys. So, naturally enough, you will have many thoughts flooding your brain as you get to grips with the information you are taking in.
With that in mind, I have decided to compile the 10 main thoughts that run through my head while I am reading.
Will it live up to the hype?
There is a certain amount of dread that comes with reading a book with major hype and hopes behind it, even more so if it’s a novel you so desperately want to love.
How do they produce a novel of this calibre?Β
Most recently I had this thought while reading John Green’s ‘Turtles All The Way Down’ and the way his fictitious novels can hold your attention and feel so realistic. As a writer and someone who flirts with the idea of becoming a published author in the future, it both inspired and disheartened me. (It mostly inspired)
It’s like they can hear my thoughts
How is this so perfectly portrayed? Has s/he drawn on personal experience? Is that why it’s so realistic and why I am so emotional?!
If one more person speaks to me…
My head is in a book, and that’s where it intends to stay for the foreseeable future so PLEASE stop trying to make conversation with me.
Do I need to Google this?
The biggest predicament you will find yourself in, is whether the word or phrase you don’t particularly recognise is important enough to look up and broaden your vocabulary, or is it just a waste of valuable reading time looking into a word you will most likely not need again.
What if I never finish my TBR list?!
That one anxiety ridden moment of thinking that to be read pile sitting before you will continue to be ever growing.
Just ONE more chapter!!!
I can’t let it lie there, I can’t possibly sleep if I don’t know what happens next. I can easily get one more chapter in, at least…
It’s what time?!
While I try to get one more chapter in before bed, it usually turns into 2, 3 or 4 and before you know it’s 2am and I have less than a few hours of sleep left.
Please, let him/her have the happy ending
Some authors feel the need to leave you broken-hearted by making you fall head over heels for the most perfect protagonist that can only exist in a fictitious novel before hitting them with some life changing event that destroys them, BUT you’re a romantic at heart and hold out for hope of this character going out and living their best life without any further trials and tribulations, FOREVER!
I have to continue living in the real world now…
How am I expected to go on about my day when I have been through emotional turmoil at the hands of a paperback novel. HOW?!
