Genre: Young Adult Contemporary, Fiction.
Point Of View: First Person Limited (Penny)
My Rating: 4/5

As Penny starts the school year she’s ready to face the world – alone. Noah has gone off the radar after ending his world tour early and no one, including Penny, knows where he is. So when she accepts Megan’s invitation to visit her performing arts school it seems like an opportunity to make some new friends.

Helping everyone else seems to be the right remedy – Elliot needs her friendship more than ever, and she meets Posey, who she can really help with her stage fright. But is charming Scottish boy Callum the right kind of distraction? And can Penny truly move on when Noah’s shadow seems to haunt her round every corner?

My thoughts

What can I say, I just loved this book. Between the characters, concept and plot twists in their own right, there’s nothing I didn’t like.

It’s the third book in the series and our online heroine Penny Porter is back to tell the tale. Her breakup with Noah hits her hard, her anxiety is obviously still looming, but she’s getting on with life.

With Noah still off radar, Penny is doing her best to move on and live the solo life. She begins working on her up and coming photography career, starts making new friends and almost delves into a budding relationship, if she wasn’t still living in the ghost of Noah. Later on in the book she learns to deal with a less than ideal altercation with an old friend, while helping new ones and figuring out the true meaning of friendship.

The thing I really love about the Girl Online series is that, not only are they just thoroughly enjoyable, it’s interspersed with slight drama and a sense of reality with tricky topics like anxiety, friendship and self importance being so well executed and Going Solo was no exception. If you’re looking for an entertaining read with a heartwarming storyline and lovable characters, I highly recommend this series but from the first novel, of course.

I don’t know whether Zoella has any plans to release a fourth novel but I really hope she has. I’m not ready to let Penny go. just yet.
